God of War Ragnarok

4.4

2024 · Action Adventure · PC / Steam

God of War Ragnarok brings the Norse saga to a powerful conclusion on PC with an expanded scope that visits all nine realms and delivers a story about fatherhood, fate, and the cost of war. The combat refines the 2018 game's foundation with more weapon variety and better enemy design, and Atreus's expanded role gives the narrative a dual perspective that enriches the father-son dynamic. The pacing struggles under the weight of its own ambition, with some realms and quests feeling like padding, and the game plays it safer than its predecessor in several key areas. But the emotional payoff of the story's conclusion rewards the investment.

Horizon Forbidden West

4.1

2024 · Action RPG · PC / Steam

Horizon Forbidden West is a gorgeous, mechanically polished open world action RPG that takes Aloy into new biomes with more machine types, underwater exploration, and a broader set of tools for combat and traversal. The machine combat remains the series' strongest element, with new enemy types that demand creative use of Aloy's expanded arsenal. The open world can feel bloated with markers, the story struggles with exposition-heavy dialogue, and the human combat remains the weakest link. But the world is stunning, the machine encounters are consistently thrilling, and the Complete Edition on PC delivers the full package including the Burning Shores DLC.

Days Gone

3.7

2021 · Action Adventure · PC / Steam

Days Gone is a slow-burn open world survival game that finds its identity in its motorcycle traversal, the Freaker Horde encounters, and a protagonist whose gruff exterior gradually reveals genuine emotional depth. The Pacific Northwest setting is atmospheric and well-realized, and the later Horde battles provide some of the most thrilling emergent combat in the genre. The game takes too long to get going, the mission structure is repetitive, and the story meanders before finding its footing. But players who push through the slow opening hours often find a game that rewards their patience with something surprisingly engaging.
