Arc Raiders

4.2

2025 · Shooter / Extraction · PC / Steam

Arc Raiders took the extraction shooter, the genre built on paranoia and inventory grief, and made it gorgeous, tactile, and strangely humane, sending scavengers up from an underground colony into sun-drenched Mediterranean ruins patrolled by implacable machines. Embark's craft is everywhere, in the sound of wind through dead resorts, in proximity chat that produces as many truces as ambushes, in machine encounters that unite rival squads against the real enemy. The loot-loss spiral still bites, topside cheaters and squad-versus-solo mathematics file the standard genre complaints, and the endgame asks patience. It's the genre's most welcoming door yet, and the year's breakout multiplayer hit.

Path of Exile 2

4.0

2024 · Action RPG · PC / Steam

Path of Exile 2 arrived in early access as the ARPG event of its generation, trading its predecessor's screen-clearing speed for deliberate, boss-centric combat closer to a soulslike with loot explosions, and its campaign's first act sequence ranks with the genre's finest hours. Grinding Gear rebuilt everything, WASD movement, skill-gem freedom, an endgame Atlas, and the honeymoon's ecstatic reception ran straight into the franchise's oldest argument when patches pulled toward friction and the community pulled toward power. It's punishing, gorgeous, unfinished, and patched in public. The genre's ceiling lives here, along with its loudest patch-note debates.

Battlefield 6

4.0

2025 · FPS / Action · PC / Steam

Battlefield 6 is the apology the franchise owed, a back-to-basics reconstruction that restores classes, squads, dog tags, and buildings that come down around your ears, delivered after a predecessor that nearly killed the brand. The all-out-warfare loop lands at full strength, sixty-four players, collapsing facades, tank shells changing the map's geometry mid-round, and the launch became EA's biggest, buoyed by open betas that rebuilt trust in public. Its campaign is a forgettable escort mission for the multiplayer, map consensus runs hot and cold, and the live-service grind arithmetic drew week-one revolts. The franchise sound, that rolling thunder of everything at once, is unmistakably back.

Rematch

3.9

2025 · Sports / Action · PC / Steam

Rematch is soccer rebuilt by the martial-arts studio behind Sifu, five-a-side matches where every player controls one athlete in third person, no fouls, no offsides, no scripted animations doing the work, just first touches, feints, and one-timers executed by hand. The launch was enormous, the skill ceiling is the real product, and a coordinated team playing tiki-taka against strangers is the year's most satisfying multiplayer feeling. It's also thin around its brilliant core, light on modes and progression, and solo queue remains a lesson in why passing was invented. A magnificent sport wearing an early live-service wardrobe.

Helldivers 2

3.8

2024 · Cooperative Third-Person Shooter · PC / Steam

Helldivers 2 launched as one of 2024's biggest surprises, delivering chaotic cooperative gameplay wrapped in sharp satirical humor. The core shooting is fun, friendly fire creates hilarious moments, and the galactic war metagame gives missions a sense of purpose beyond personal progression. The months following launch saw a series of controversies around weapon balancing, PSN linking requirements, and monetization that eroded the community's goodwill faster than anyone expected. The game underneath the noise is still a blast with friends, but Arrowhead's post-launch decisions have made the recommendation more complicated than the gameplay deserves.

Towerborne

3.3

2024 · Action RPG · PC / Steam

Towerborne comes from the studio behind The Banner Saga, and that pedigree shows in its gorgeous hand-drawn art and expressive animation. The four-player co-op brawling is satisfying in short bursts, the visual design is top-tier, and the world has personality to spare. But the early access launch revealed a game stretched thin by live-service demands, with repetitive mission structure, sparse content, and progression systems that don't yet reward the time invested. There's a good game fighting to get out, but it needs significantly more development time to fulfill its potential.
