Hegemony: Lead Your Class to Victory

4.3

2023 · 2-4 Players · ~90-180 min · Competitive

Hegemony: Lead Your Class to Victory hands four players a nation's steering wheel and lets them fight over it, Working Class, Middle Class, Capitalist Class, and State, each running a completely different game inside one economy, with tax policy, wages, healthcare, and education decided by votes everyone at the table has bribed, traded, or threatened over. Built on actual political-economy theory and unashamed of the homework, it earned its reputation as one of the great heavy asymmetric designs of its generation. It runs long, teaches hard, and rewards tables that argue. Few games have ever made a legislature this playable, and none have made payday feel this political.

Slay the Spire: The Board Game

4.3

2024 · 1-4 Players · ~45-150 min · Cooperative

Slay the Spire: The Board Game performs the adaptation nobody quite believed possible, converting the definitive digital deck-builder into cardboard without losing the math, the tension, or the build-around joy, and adding the one thing the videogame never had, friends at the same table. Up to four players climb cooperatively, each running their own character's deck against shared encounters, and the design's translation choices, streamlined enemy logic, damage tracked in chunky components, preserve the digital game's decision core with eerie fidelity. It's expensive, table-hungry, and slower than its instant-shuffling parent by nature. As co-op deck-building, it immediately joined the format's top shelf.

Vindication

4.0

2018 · 2-5 Players · ~60-150 min · Competitive

Vindication is an original design built around a redemption arc that actually feels like a redemption arc. The attribute system and modular map create a different strategic puzzle every session, and the multiple paths to victory give every player room to build something they care about. It's not a perfect game, but the combination of thematic coherence and lean mechanical design is uncommon enough that it stands out clearly in a crowded field.

Pillars of Eternity

4.0

2015 · RPG · PC / Steam

Pillars of Eternity accomplished something that seemed impossible in 2015: it brought the classic CRPG back from the dead. Obsidian built a world with genuine depth, a magic system rooted in philosophy rather than just fireballs, and a campaign that rewards patience with ideas that stick with you long after the credits. Combat and companion writing don't quite reach the heights of the best the genre has produced, and the early hours test your willingness to absorb dense lore. But for players willing to meet it halfway, this is a rich, intelligent RPG that earned its place in the revival it started.
