Queer Eye
2018 · Netflix · Reality
Queer Eye's Netflix revival turned a 2000s makeover format into the streaming era's premier crying-on-the-couch machine, five experts descending on one overwhelmed person a week and rebuilding wardrobe, kitchen, home, grooming, and, always, the self-worth underneath. The Fab Five's chemistry is the engine, the transformations are television's most reliable catharsis, and the show's real product was never the haircut, it's permission to be cared for. The formula repeats by design, the week-long fixes invite fair skepticism, and the sponsored gloss shows. As comfort television with an actual thesis, though, it has few equals.
