Super Supportive is the web serial that conquered Royal Road by refusing nearly everything the platform's algorithms reward, no power-grind spreadsheets, no revenge arcs, just Alden Thorn, a teenager whose superpower is carrying things for other people, navigating an alien-administered superhero system with more bureaucracy than battles. Sleyca writes character interiority at a depth the progression genre almost never attempts, the alien culture-building rewards obsessive rereads, and the serial's emotional peaks land among the format's best. It's gloriously, deliberately slow, ongoing with no end scheduled, and shaped by its chapter-by-chapter serialization. Its enormous readership calls the pace the point. They're right.

Joe Abercrombie's debut tears up every heroic fantasy template and rebuilds the pieces into something meaner, funnier, and more honest about what violence actually costs. Logen Ninefingers is a barbarian who's tired of killing, Sand dan Glokta is a crippled torturer who's too clever for his own good, and Jezal dan Luthar is a vain nobleman who hasn't suffered enough yet. The character work is phenomenal, the dark humor lands consistently, and Abercrombie writes violence with a specificity that makes you feel every blow. The plot is mostly setup for the trilogy, which makes this book feel incomplete on its own. But the characters are so magnetic that the destination matters less than the company.

The Wandering Inn is one of the most ambitious works of fantasy fiction being written today, and its scale alone makes it remarkable. The slice-of-life approach to a LitRPG world creates something wholly different from anything else in the genre, and the character work improves dramatically as the series finds its voice. Early rough patches and the sheer commitment required to engage with the story limit its audience, but readers who push through the first volume's uneven stretches tend to become devoted fans. This is fantasy at its most sprawling, patient, and eventually rewarding.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a polished action RPG with strong production values and a character creator that sets a new standard for the genre. It also feels like a departure from what made Dragon Age distinctive, with simplified RPG systems, a tonal shift toward lighter fare, and choices that rarely carry meaningful weight. It's a competent game that struggles to justify the decade-long wait.
